AppNotifier is a tool that brings back the missing app update and app install notifications on Google Play. If you were disappointed by Google's decision to remove these notifications from the Play Store, this app offers a solution.

Features:

Show a notification every time a new app is installed or updated on your device.
Choose whether notifications are displayed for apps from Google Play or for sideloaded apps.

Limitations:

The app doesn't detect installations in progress, so there might be a short delay between you downloading an app and the notification appearing.
